Nicknamed for its 165 miles of waterways, Fort Lauderdale has become known to people as the “Venice of America”. I remember when my family and I were taking a sunset tour of the canal areas of Ft. Lauderdale, it was gorgeous and amazing to learn how far you can travel by water in this city.
Fort Lauderdale is one of the loveliest cities I have visited. The views, the people, the food, and the entire vibe of this area is beauty and peaceful. My family and I went for New Years in 2020 and we had a wonderful vacation together.
When visiting Fort Lauderdale there are many aspects to see and things to do. I think that some of my favorite time spent on this vacation was just relaxing on the beach. Fort Lauderdale has an endless amount of options to do and places to view during your trip to the “Venice of America”.
Beach Days
As I mentioned, some of my favorite time spent in Fort Lauderdale was on the beach. The hotel we stayed at was directly across from the beach. So every morning we just walked across the street and had our toes in the sand.
The beach itself was a very clean and safe environment for a family to be. There was not too many people on the beach until the middle of the day, which was nice. We took this trip in January so the weather was a little chillier than usual Florida temperatures. However, it was still stunning everyday and definitely warm enough to tan!
The relaxing scene of the beach was an excellent bonus for our trip. You can tell there are a variety of different people and groups on the beach, but no one was too loud or crazy that you could not enjoy your time. I think that the beaches in Fort Lauderdale were one of the top attributes about the city and its beauty.
Bike Rides
The entire city of Fort Lauderdale provides beautiful, flay routes for individuals to ride bikes. The bike ride my family and I took was so fun. We ended up renting bikes for a few hours and biking along the water and throughout the city in the bike lane. We were able to do a few miles in the morning before the heat and see some great sights throughout the area.
Bike riding along the beachfront and in the city was such a great idea. We were able to do a fun activity as a family, while seeing more of the Fort Lauderdale city. I think that renting bikes is a great way to spend quality time with family on vacation while being adventurous and seeing new places and views.
Riverfront Cruise
One evening we booked a cruise with a company called Riverfront Cruises for an amazing sightseeing time around the waterways. This cruise was super informational around every turn and keep the facts rolling the entire hour and a half.
I really enjoyed this cruise because we were able to be on some of the waterways which make up the total 165 miles in Fort Lauderdale. It was a lovely activity to do during the afternoon. We were even able to see the Millionaire’s Row homes, which was really cool and interesting to learn about.
Scenic Shopping
The shopping along the streets of Fort Lauderdale are adorable. They are wonderful boutiques that are great places for visitors to get souvenirs. My mom and I spent one cloudy morning walking along these shops and we had a great time. The shops were across the street from the beach, so we had an enjoyable view the whole time. And we were able to get some great souvenirs for ourselves to remember this trip.
Delicious Food
The food in Fort Lauderdale was just as amazing as the views. These are my top three restaurants I highly recommend going to when you are in Fort Lauderdale.
Cafe Del Mar
This Cafe Del Mar was the best brunch food I had eaten all trip. The avocado egg toast was outstanding and the morning drinks were delicious. This place is also located along the street, which means you are able to look out onto the lovely beach. They open at 8am which allows for a perfect morning breakfast before peak sun hours!
Drunken Taco
OMG I had one of the best tacos ever at this restaurant. This taco place is so worth going to! The food and drinks were out of this world amazing and the service was quick! My mom and I went for lunch one day and loved it so much we came back for dinner the following night! Definitely take time out of your trip to eat at the Drunken Taco.
Louie Bossi
This restaurant was a lovely, elegant place to eat at for our vacation. The food was delicious and the people were overly nice. I recommend making a reservation because it is such a nice and popular restaurant in the area. The pasta was so flavorful and the Budding Cioccolata dessert was outstanding. Here is the link to this amazing place!
From the outstanding beach to the bike rides to the delicious foods, Fort Lauderdale is an excellent vacation spot. The area is a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone throughout the stay. I think that this quant little city area is unknown to so many people, which keeps its beauty alive and prospering. I highly recommend spending your next trip to Florida in Fort Lauderdale.
