The Fern Canyon located near Trinidad, California is a beautiful green-scenery unlike anything you’ve seen before.
The Fern Canyon is a very popular walk in which you should expect greenery, creeks, and very rocky areas. When choosing to enter this glorious walk, I suggest wearing good hiking boots so as to not roll your ankle on any of the rocks or small creek locations.
This is a beautiful nature walk that is family friendly, but it is still important to be careful and ensure that you don’t hurt your feet when walking.
Another important piece of information to know is that the creek that flows throughout the canyon can vary in its height, so it is more than likely that your feet will be getting somewhat wet at some point in this mini- canyon. Throughout the months of June to September there are wooden foot bridges installed to help individuals walk through the canyon, but they do not prevent you from being wet.

During the busier months of the year you need to make a reservation to get into the national park and also choose a time slot to visit either the Gold Bluffs Beach or the Fern Canyon. This also ensures that there is enough parking slots for individuals throughout the day, and therefore the canyon is never super busy.
Other than being prepared to walk the canyon, you need to make sure your vehicle can get to the Fern Canyon parking lot. Before the hike itself you have to drive your vehicle through 3 streams. These streams can vary in how large and tall the water is based on the season, recent rainy weather, and other conditions which increase the water-flow. It is important to just be aware of this factor and make sure you are not driving a super low vehicle when visiting the Fern Canyon.
